RECONNECT 08 – Draw Me Close

In the Spring of 2008, five AACF alumni - Les Yee (former AACF Cal Campus Minister), Dana Chau  (former AACF Davis Campus Minister), Victor Quon (former AACF SD and SJ Campus MInister), Brian Wo (Cal) and Darryl Chan (UC Davis) - began praying and planning for AACF alumni to gather for an evening of worship.  This event had multiple purposes:  To reconnect and rekindle past friendships, update alumni with current NorCal AACF ministry news, and hopefully, spark revival in the hearts of AACF alumni.

Four months later, on September 27, 2008, AACF alumni from Cal Berkeley, UC Davis, San Jose State University and other Northern California colleges gathered at Peninsula Free Methodist Church for RECONNECT 08 - Draw Me Close.  The night went by too quickly.  The gathering represented many lives impacted by the ministry of AACF.  We got to see old friends and meet new family members.

Les Yee, pastor of PFMC and former NorCal AACF staff member, encouraged alumni from the book of Hebrews to stay connected to God and to each other.  The organizers’ deep concern for the alumni was captured in this devotional message.

The worship team, headed by Brian Wo (Cal), consisted of alumni, Steve Kim (SJ), Linda Kim (Muramoto) (SJ), Mark Kwong (Cal), Matt Ma (Cal), Anthony Yuen (SJ) and Les Yee (Cal).  We worshipped God with contemporary songs, and we also sang, He is God, a Wes Terasaki tune that was familiar to those who were a part of AACF in the 80's and 90's.

But most of the 80+ people in attendance would agree that the highlight of the evening took place when the group formed a circle to share about what AACF meant to them.  One said that he came to know Christ through AACF.  Another voiced that because of his participation in AACF, he received his initial call to ministry.  Others built friendships that today continue to be vital to their walk with Christ.  It was clear from the sharing that AACF made a profound difference in people's lives.

The current AACF staff members also shared.  They introduced themselves and their current ministry opportunities and challenges.  The alumni responded by encircling the staff with prayer.
